WHO IS

GULLIVER?

"Gulliver's travels" is our monthly feature by Elisabetta Crisponi.

What's the meaning of this title?

Our blog is about itinerant lives, some by choice and some by necessity. As Gulliver appears too small or too big, sincere or fake depending on the location he lands in, in the same way a person which leaves their homeland may appear or feel different upon arrival in foreign land. And maybe they really are different.

This column will be a monthly appointment, adding to the happenings of the classroom a socio-historical contestualization of our students' stories. It will be a way to visit a different country everytime, discovering different realities.

We also wanted to pay hommage to a European literature classic. In his novel, Jonathan Swift wanted to highlight, with a pessimist point of view, contradictions in the customs of the society which, the great Irish writer affirmed, we would not survive. We interpreted it in a different light: it's through contradiction and adversity that the beauty of sacrifice and satisfaction of reaching a goal blossom.

It's our pleasure to narrate it starting from a school, highlighting how education is the first instrument for emancipation and social redemption. We rediscover love for our roots and our culture through the eyes of those who are foreign by birth, but choose to embrace it and love it consciously.

Someone wrote:”Culture is organization, discipline of our inner self, it's mastering our own personality, it's a conquest of superior conscience, with which we are able to comprehend our historical value, our purpose in life, our rights and our duties”.

With our own Gulliver starting his travels, dive into the words and enjoy!
