LET'S MEET UP

AT SCHOOL

Our meeting

The school we tell you is special: the students are foreign men and women who arrived in Italy only a short time ago. Their lives begun in different countries of Africa, South and Central America, Eastern Europe or again the Middle and the Far East.

Our lives, instead, begun and still go on in Lombardy, a northern region of Italy.

We were born on different planets, but we ran into each other at the door of an Italian public school.

It would be nice to say that the only barrier is our different languages. That would not be true.

Italian is a hard language to learn, however it is much more difficult to use words to seek help, to knock on someone’s door, to thank or to accept silence and refusal.

Putting the door ajar is just the first step.

Putting the door ajar does not mean opening it, nor crossing the threshold. These are steps which still need to be carried out.

But... Did you ever find yourself in a completely dark room, as the is locked outside? A crack, a slightly open door is enough to let in a timid sunbeam: now, you can at least take a glimpse at what's around you.
